Following are the answers to some of the most frequently asked about W. D. Gann’s trading methods, and the "MAGIC IN THE MARKETS" Course. As this entire website is designed to save us time on the phone, the detailed answers below should clear up a lot of the questions you have before calling us.
WHO TAKES 'W.D. GANN: MAGIC IN THE MARKETS?'
Three groups of people generally take the course. First, the smallest group is made up of esoteric researchers and wealthy individuals who are either fascinated with this material or Gann; or the financial markets are their passion and the price of the course will not affect their bottom line.
The second group is comprised of professional market analysts. In the ultra-competitive field of market analysis and research, W. D. Gann's unique methods give them an exclusive upper hand in the field of technical analysis of financial markets, because W. D. Gann discovered principles that caused the movement of financial markets and predicted them ahead of time.
The third group of course is portfolio managers and traders, including several from the world’s largest and most renown financial houses. Of this group, more and more portfolio managers are turning up due to the decadal shift from "prop trading" to portfolio management. “Magic In The Markets” is geared to active market professionals whose are adequately capitalized, available to the markets in the timeframe they choose, and have a disciplined approach to the market. Gann’s methods are rule-based and objective, so professionals that manage portfolios under mandates such as sector rotation, overweight-underweight timing, relative strength, and mandatory sector investment find them a natural fit for their environment.
WHAT ARE THE PRE-REQUISITES FOR THE 'W.D GANN: MAGIC IN THE MARKETS COURSE?'
Recipients of the W. D. Gann "MAGIC IN THE MARKETS" course are diverse. So let's break the answer down by audience:
The course truly becomes "Magic" for the active traders, professionals analysists, and portfolio managers for whom it has reduced risk, boosted profit, and given peace, consistency, and confidence. Frequently these entities are bound to use methods defined by objective rules, and already have and organized approach to the goals they trade to achieve. For many on the cusp of these qualities, "Magic" gets them over the hump.
The good news is that there is no need for expensive books or prep to undertake. W. D. Gann reserved publication of anything that would work "out of the box." All his public material came to comprise coded reminders to his students, reserving the revelation of his true system to the students that would verbally transmit them to in-person. The best prep is to hone the approaches to the market you are interested in. To familiarize yourself with the basic concepts of Gann’s esoteric data and sequences, we can recommend some specific books on Gann's recommended reading list once you sign up for the course.
Psychological preparation for the course is most important. The unpublished methods of W. D. Gann will be a new paradigm, taking you in new directions even if you have "studied W. D. Gann's concepts" for years. You will find them a refreshing bridge over the waters of wasting time and money on the subjective, and vague "broken Gann" available in the public realm. Applying Gann’s unpublished methods pry you out of tinkering and develop discipline and organization, because Gann put together objective, rule-based methods synchronized by a well-defined control system.
So we can hit the ground running in the seminar, we offer prep webinars which allow you to own the foundations of Gann’s techniques.
DO YOU GIVE PREDICTIONS, TRADES, OR ENTRIES AND EXITS IN ADVANCE TO THOSE CONSIDERING THE COURSE?
Our lawyers prohibit us from doing this. We offer references and pictorial back-testing.
Gann’s individual techniques are best understood within the context of Gann’s roadmap for where and when the market is going. All the techniques Gann developed are tied together by the control system of Gann’s astro-numerology. Communicating these signals outside of that understood context usually fails to cure risk-aversion, because risk aversion is based in a fear of the unknown.
DOES THE COURSE INCLUDE THE MAGIC 'UP/DOWN' UNICORN CYCLE?
Yes, we teach W. D. Gann's original alternating cycle generation method, and it back-tests extremely well. These are called “Cycles of Progression,” and are found in Gann’s book, “The Magic Word.” The method for projecting intraday, monthly, yearly, and larger cycles like the Robert Gordon 7 Days using the Law of Vibration are included in the course. You can see the examples (many) on our ‘cycles’ page. W. D. Gann only traded longer cycle legs that coincided with the same direction in larger cycles and the Arcana. Those looking to these cycles to trade an “always long/always short" Unicorn are misguided. Gann never traded cycles alone, but always interpreted them within the context of his Arcana trend.
We can test the success of each cycle leg, and thus the whole cycle, because the method for predicting these cycles is objective and rule-based. Our test is this: the cycle should always alternate up and down. ‘Inversions,' exist only in the excuses of others pedaling something labeled “Gann.” Market failures due occur to unexpected news, but the cycle sequence remains up/down on each leg, giving the practitioner added confidence. For each leg to be a success, the price at the end of the cycle leg must be lower or higher than the price at the beginning, corresponding to the predicted direction of alternation for that cycle leg. According to that test, our alternating cycle legs and turns experience a failure rate of under 8% for most cycles. Out of these, the market often has a significant move in the predicted direction even during many of these 'failures.' That being said, please read the following.
W. D. Gann used the term “cycles” many times in his writings when he was describing the Arcana Trend Machine as well as fixed cycles. And many references to the Arcana in “Tunnel Thru The Air” are mistaken for the "up/down" cycles working on several time frames. W. D. Gann attributed a relatively small space in his writings to what could be interpreted as “up and down” cycles. In many of his writings these ‘cycles' are read-in by newbies looking for a one-pony show. W. D. Gann developed a host of awesome techniques, with most be defined as something other than a ‘cycle.’
In “Tunnel Thru The Air,” Gann does delineate a couple 'Cycles of Repetition.' We believe Gann writes extensively of the superiority of ‘Cycles of Progression.” So we focus on them because we believe it allows market participants greater success. Cycles of Repetition tend to be one-offs, un-tethered from Gann’s larger system, and succumb to subjective and vague rules. Those we have seen use them always seem to be ambushed by ‘inversions’ that come out of the blue and flip the whole sequence of the cycle, making future prediction impossible. We maintain focus on methods that gel with servicing market professionals.
Luther Jensen has some important warnings about catching every cycle turn. He advises against such a pursuit due to two important factors. First, the same cycles begin from more than one point in the year, blurring the clarity of trends and turns. Second, these cycles are subject to interference from unexpected news. As Jensen was talking about news frequency years ago, this phenomenon must be infinity more profound by now. Bottom line: You will need more of Gann's techniques mixed in if you are going to make money from these cycles.
DO YOU NEED SPECIAL SOFTWARE?
Most of the techniques (with the exception of 1 or 2 intraday techniques) take under 1 minute to draw out. We provide the LOV software on Excel with the course. Software such as Wave59 can speed up your applications and enable you to follow multiple markets on smaller time frames with these methods. We further include proprietary indicators with open code on Excel, EFS, and Wave59 Qscript.
Wave59 is uniquely designed from the ground up around the way Gann drew out charts and the ephemeris by hand. It packages 2 to 3 steps of the process, so you can focus on applying the technique quickly. This is immensely helpful in the stage where you first learn Gann's trading techniques and want to hit the ground running.
DO YOU SELL THE MANUAL SEPERATELY OR OFFER THE COURSE ONLINE?
We refuse to sell the manual separately or mail it to anyone without vetting, which frequently involves verification of employment. Each manual is updated and crafted to the markets and timeframes traded by the 4 attendees of that particular seminar. Each manual is only produced for a specific recipient. You would have to attend the course and see the material to realize that you must be present in person to see how it is applied.
We dislike making electronic copies of any material due to piracy concerns. This material is far too unique and valuable. Everyone we know who has gone the electronic route has been pirated. The above also applies here: You would not get the same understanding of this material without the examples in the seminar which are demonstrated on recent, live data.
Our new Gann Center is located directly on River Road just seconds from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport in the heart of all major hotels and restaurants in Chicago's Rosemont Entertainment District.
