SHREDDER- GANN'S TREND PER-BAR
Shredder is trading strategy developed from W. D. Gann’s “balancing a stock” technique in his first book, “Truth of the Stock Tape.” Gann developed this system based on his law of vibration, determining trend on a bar-by-bar basis. This technique has many other uses, such as determining entry and exit signals on the Tokyo J-1 Cycle.
Unlike many of our other Gann strategies, Shredder employes the help of customized technical analysis which is tuned to the cycles of W. D. Gann for that particular market. Pictured here on Nasdaq 2min and Bitcoin 15min, Shredder operates on most major markets. However, Shredder does have "sweetspot" markets and timeframes where it really "shreds."
SHREDDER ON NASDAQ INTRADAY NQ
To the right is an exhaustive breakdown of Shredder intraday for August 2026 (click the picture to expand.) The test only takes into account trades signaled during regular US Equity Session of 9:30- 16:00 EST, taking every trade signaled therein (averages about 4 per day.)
Shredder derives its signals from QQQ, data, and can be executed instantly with either the QQQ, NQ, or options. Performance is displayed assuming both 1,000 shares on the QQQ and 1 contract on NQ per trade. Soon we'll display all of 2026, but we thought August would be a good place for a first-look at Shredder. August is typically difficult for intraday trading due to market makers going on vacation.
With the per-day August breakdown of Shredder NQ to the left (click to expand,) you can see this strategy is defined by consistency. Though this particular application of Shredder is intraday on a 2min chart, the unit of return is the month. Each month Shredder returns are positive, and very consistent with those displayed. Testing assumes every trade signal in the regular US Equity Session was taken.
These returns assume a capital markets firm or professional trader who is always at the market during the US trading day. For the retail trader who trades part-time, Shredder presents a potent, high-probability approach which can be further customized to your trading style.
ULTIMATE SHREDDER ON BITCOIN
The performance to the right (click to expand) uses a 15-minute chart of $BTC/USD and assumes 1 Bitcoin per trade. The return is also monthly, with 8 months of returns being cumulatively displayed here. The 15-minute chart is a sweet-spot on Bitcoin for Shredder. This version of Shredder is customized with a few simple filters from technical analysis, limited to the European/Early US trading timeframe, and utilizes a R:R of appx. 1.5 to 1. The original base Shredder ran 24-hours and returned between 2k and 8k per month.
Both of these configurations of Shredder on this page include Gann's money management and the use of a breakeven stop movement. Machine Learning has helped determine the optimal money management for each market. We want to emphasize that the configurations and returns for Shredder presented here are basic, and can easily be modified for larger trades, less of more trading, different time zones, and different risk tolerance. As presented on this page, Shredder on both NQ and Bitcoin make excellent approaches to passing prop firm challenges due to their consistency and shallow drawdowns.
With W. D. Gann's 'balancing a stock' technique as its foundation, Shredder determines the trend as a per-bar basis for each instrument, and can work with custom timeframes. Shredder can also serve as an entry mechanism combined with other strategies.
